New England is a group of small states in the Northeastern USA. It consists of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The region was originally settled by English puritans following Captain John Smith's exploration of the region in 1614 on behalf of London merchants.
In protest to a tax England placed on tea sent to their American colonies as well as limitations on trade for the colonists, a group of colonists boarded a ship loaded with tea in the Boston Harbor. They then through tea overboard and replaced the locks they had to break to access the tea. This was one of the first acts of rebellion by the British colonists that eventually led to the American Revolutionary War, which eventually led to the founding of America as a country.
