From the founding of the United States, there were 3 branches of government, the legislative, executive, and judicial. The legislative branch was separated into the House of Representatives and the Senate while the executive branch was enumerated to be headed by the President. Throughout the centuries the president has obtained various groups under his supervision. Additionally, the judicial branch is headed by the Supreme Court with 9 supreme court justices who are appointed by the president. Once the justices are appointed they retain their position until they choose to retire unless they are impeached. In addition to the Supreme Court there are many lower courts in the judicial branch. This complex organization of the federal US government helps to show citizens how their rights are protected. This discussion will follow the layout of the Constitution when possible and proceed chronologically from there.
